Uganda Embassy participates in Africa Day 2024
Embassy of Uganda joined the African Union to mark the 2024 International Africa Day. This year’s theme is “Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for Increased Access to Inclusive, Lifelong, Quality, and Relevant Learning in Africa”.
Heads of Missions for the Member States of the African Union accredited to Burundi were present at this event as well as other Diplomats accredited to Burundi and Pan-African organizations based in Burundi. The Guest of Honor was the MInister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation in Burundi, H.E. Ambassador Albert Shingiro. In his speech, the representative of the President of the African Commission for the Great Lakes Region and Burundi Mr. Gonzague-Patrick H.Balagizi related the message of the President of the African Union Commission Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat highlighting Africa's economic resilience in light of global disruptions.
The Embassy highlighted Uganda’s contribution to education and peace efforts on the Ugandan continent. Apart from the peace mission in Somalia, Uganda significantly contributed to the education and capacity development of many other African citizens with notable alumni graduating from its prestigious Makerere University such as the late President Mwai Kibaki of Kenya, the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere of Tanzania, and renowned Professor Ali Mazrui. Mbarara University of Science and Technology of Uganda partnered with University of Ngozi, Burundi to foster learning and share knowledge between their respective medical schools.
Uganda Embassy showcased products and services from Ugandan companies operational in Burundi, Uganda’s airline, Uganda’s tourist attractions, and cultural wear synonymous with Uganda.
